Introduction

The primary objective of the survey was to assess how organisations address five strategic imperatives1 expected to play a critical role in navigating uncertainty and enabling sustainable growth.

In particular, the survey was intended to understand:

The extent to which organisations are embedding forward-looking scenario analysis and stress testing into strategic and financial decision-making.

How organisations identify and manage supply chain chokepoints and supplier risks through extended visibility beyond direct suppliers, real-time monitoring, and scenario analysis, and how these analyses integrate supplier management.

The extent to which AI and analytics are deployed to strengthen risk assessment, monitoring, and insight generation.

How organisations are addressing workforce adaptability, critical skills gaps, and trust amid accelerating transformation.

How climate-related risk, adaptation, mitigation, and infrastructure resilience are being integrated into strategic planning and investment decisions.

In addition to these findings, the readiness of each strategic imperative was assessed, along with short-term priorities for action and recommendations to strengthen the role of risk management across these imperatives.

Methodology and composition of the sample

Marsh conducted the survey in June and July 2026. The sample includes 146 organisations of different sizes, grouped by revenue bands: above €5 billion, between €1 billion and €5 billion, between €500 million and €1 billion, and with revenues of less than €500 million.

It also reflects a mix of ownership profiles, including listed and non-listed companies, and spans a diverse range of industries across different European regions. These include manufacturing, financial services, energy and power, mobility, food and agriculture, logistics, technology, fashion and luxury, and life sciences.
