Insurance market update

Aviation insurance market: capacity available, but more selective

The first half of 2026 has reinforced a clear market reality: aviation insurance capacity remains available, but it is being deployed with greater selectivity.

The themes that accelerated through 2025 continued to shape underwriting behavior, with insurers still generally focused on elevated claims costs, rising repair and replacement expenses, social inflation, supply chain disruption, and geopolitical uncertainty. As a result, market conditions remain competitive but with increasing differentiation based on risk quality, claims experience, exposure profile, and the strength of the renewal narrative.

Looking ahead at the rest of 2026, the market is expected to remain broadly stable but differentiated. Airline and aerospace placements are likely to stay firm where insurers see volatility, long-term pricing pressure, or weaker risk controls, while war risks remain comparatively steady and general aviation continues to benefit from high levels of competition and attractive pricing. In this environment, early engagement, credible data, clear evidence of risk management progress, and a well-defined placement strategy will be key to securing favorable renewal outcomes.
